Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, which probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. For many women, having full breasts makes them feel more attractive and desirable, boosting their self-esteem and confidence. Beyond that, breast implants can create proportion and give the body a shapelier appearance, as well as help a woman fill out her clothing, bras, and bathing suits. Once our Houston breast augmentation patients decide they’re ready for the surgery, the first thing they typically want to know is, how to pick the right size of breast implants. Implants that are too large can look unnatural and imbalanced, while some women worry that if their implants are too small, the impact won’t be dramatic enough. Dr. Jung has performed thousands of breast augmentations at Premiere Surgical Arts and relies on his experience and eye for symmetry to give his patients guidance, so they get results they’re thrilled with. Though coming in for a consultation is the way to find your perfect fit, we’re sharing some of the things we take into consideration for our patients in our guide to picking the right size of breast implants for you.
Breast Implant Sizes and Shapes
First, it’s important to note that breast implants aren’t sized like bra cups. There isn’t one implant that will give you a C cup or another that leads to a DD cup. Implants are measured by volume, typically cubic centimeters, or cc’s. The cc to cup size conversion will depend on a variety of factors, including your height, weight, build, and existing breast size. For example, a woman with broad shoulders and small breasts might require 450cc implants to go from an A cup to a C cup after surgery. Alternatively, a shorter woman with narrow shoulders and more breast tissue might only need a fraction of that. Because one size implant will look different on virtually every woman, you can’t just find a breast implant sizes chart, choose one and assume that’s the size you should go with.
At Premiere Surgical Arts, we use Natrelle® and Mentor® implants because they look full and natural. You’ll have the choice between saline or silicone gel implants and which one we suggest will depend on your body and what your aesthetic goals are. There are also different implant shapes (i.e., round, teardrop), widths, and profiles (low, medium, and high, which refers to how much the implant projects out from the body when viewed from the side). The type, size, shape, and profile will all impact what your breasts will look like after surgery, as will the placement of the implants. Dr. Jung usually places implants under the muscle but there are times when the implant will have to be placed over the muscle. We tailor the procedure to you so that it’s safe and your breasts look gorgeous. Try not to get hung up on cc’s or cup size because it really comes down to what works on your body and what your breast tissue can accommodate for lasting, stunning results. Schedule a consultation today by calling us at (832) 626-4735 and we’ll discuss all of your options, have you try on different sizes, and analyze before and after breast augmentation photos of women with similar breasts to yours. This allows us to give you a personalized recommendation.
Considerations for Picking the Right Size of Breast Implants for You
To get prepared for your appointment, there are some things you can do to aid in the decision-making process:
Analyze Your Body Shape
Avoid the, “I’ll have what she’s having,” approach. While your friend might look fantastic with a certain size implant, that doesn’t mean it will produce the same effect on your body. When patients ask, “What size breast should I have for my height and weight?” that’s actually more in line with reality but there are other things to take into account as well, like your current breast size, the width of your shoulders and hips and your overall frame. It’s all about proportion. If your shoulders and hips are wider, you may need a larger breast implant.
Consider Your Personality
If you’re an introvert who doesn’t like a lot of attention, it might be a mistake to go with the biggest implant possible. Instead, perhaps a more natural look that gently fills out your breasts will be better suited to you. However, some patients don’t mind if it’s obvious they’ve had a breast augmentation and would prefer something larger that creates substantial roundness in the upper pole and that’s okay too. You just want to make sure you’ll be comfortable with the outcome.
Take Your Lifestyle into Account
The implants we use today look and feel extremely natural, which ensures they’re comfortable and you can still go about doing all of the things you love. However, no matter what type of implant it is, if it’s too large for your body, your breasts can get in the way when you’re running, jumping, and doing other activities. For people who play sports or exercise a lot, low or medium-profile implants in a size that really fits with your physique could be a better bet.
Do Some Breast Implant Sizes Comparison Research
When you meet with our Houston cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Jung, to discuss breast augmentation, he’ll show you before and after photos of women with similar breast sizes and body types as we noted before. This is really valuable. Of course, trying on implants in your bra is helpful but seeing them on an actual human can give you a much better idea of how it will look post-operatively. Doing some research on your own and bringing in photos of what you like and don’t like can help you narrow down your choices and make picking the right size of breast implants for you a more streamlined process.
Bring a Friend to Your Consultation
Having an impartial third party with you who knows you really well can help you stay objective. Not only can they offer their opinion, they can also listen to all of the information, and that way if you’re too nervous or excited to retain everything, they’ll be there to refresh your memory later.
Our ultimate goal at Premiere Surgical Arts is to safely, comfortably, and effectively give you the results you’ve always dreamed of. When patients visit us for breast implants in Houston, we take the time to present them with all of their options and educate them, so they can make an informed decision.
